A Story of Resilience, Community, and Transformation

In the heart of Toronto, a hairstylist turned entrepreneur and advocate is reshaping the hair industry with purpose, compassion, and determination. After surviving a catastrophic car accident in December 2021, which left her with a traumatic brain injury and severe hair matting caused by blood and glass, Jah discovered her calling: to restore dignity, confidence, and accessibility through the art of hairstyling. This pivotal moment ignited a passion to not only redefine the Black hair industry but to address long-standing gaps and challenges. Together with her best friend, a trusted collaborator of five years, AJ, co-founded

**Woe Lotta Hair**—a mobile hair company that combines integrity, innovation, and empathy to meet the needs of underserved clients. Alongside it, she established the **Woe Lotta Heart Foundation**, a nonprofit providing free hair services to individuals in shelters, hospitals, foster homes, and other vulnerable spaces. ---

Bridging the Gaps in the Hair Industry

Through years of experience, Jah and her best friend AJ witnessed recurring frustrations from clients in the Black hair community: late appointments, inconsistent service quality, lack of professionalism, and difficulty accessing trusted stylists. For individuals with mobility limitations or fast-paced lifestyles, these barriers were even more pronounced. “We realized the industry wasn’t built to serve everyone equally,” says Jah. “That’s why we decided to create something better—a polished, reliable, and client-focused experience where people can truly book with confidence.”

Woe Lotta Hair sets itself apart with innovative practices and policies aimed at ensuring optimal client satisfaction: -

**Money-Back Guarantee**: Clients receive a full refund if they’re not satisfied with their style. -

**Flexible Rescheduling**: Clients can reschedule up to 24 hours before their appointment without losing their deposit. -

**Accountability for Stylists**: If a stylist is late or unable to meet their commitment, the client’s deposit is deducted from the final cost.

The company also caters to diverse needs by offering mobile services that bring top-notch haircare directly to clients’ homes, offices, and events. Discounts are provided for clients with children under six, seniors, students, pregnant individuals, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have medical conditions that impact their mobility. Woe Lotta Hair’s approach isn’t just about styling—it’s about building trust, community, and access. --

Empowering Marginalized Communities with Woe Lotta Heart

Driven by her personal experience and desire to make a difference, Jah launched the **Woe Lotta Heart Foundation**, a nonprofit initiative tied to the mission of her business. Through the foundation, stylists provide free hair services to individuals in shelters, hospitals, foster homes, and orphanages—spaces where self-care is often overlooked but deeply needed. A portion of proceeds from every Woe Lotta Hair booking goes toward funding this initiative, alongside grants and community partnerships. For Jah, this is about more than hairstyling; it’s about restoring confidence and dignity to those who need it most. “When I was recovering from my accident, I remember how powerful it felt to have someone care for me—not just physically, but emotionally. I want to give that feeling back to others, especially those who feel unseen or forgotten.” ---

Building a Movement, Not Just a Business

The vision for Woe Lotta Hair and Woe Lotta Heart goes beyond individual appointments. Jah and AJ are creating a movement that uplifts communities, supports emerging stylists, and breaks down barriers in the beauty industry. They’ve seen the talent and passion in new stylists who lack platforms to grow. By onboarding stylists through structured agreements and mentorship, the company creates opportunities for hairstylists to thrive while maintaining high standards of service. Stylists are also empowered to participate in nonprofit projects, using their skills to make an impact. ---

The Road Ahead

With a polished rebrand underway, Woe Lotta Hair is on a mission to reach more clients, onboard additional stylists, and expand its services. As the company grows, so does its impact. The foundation’s reach is expanding, with a goal of scaling its nonprofit efforts to provide consistent services across shelters and hospitals in the GTA. “We’re not just building a business,” AJ shares. “We’re creating something that fills gaps, fosters inclusivity, and changes lives.” ---
